I’ll admit it – I am a watch-aholic. Over the past weekend, I carefully selected a few watches to wear during the week. Unfortunately, most of them will stay at home during my upcoming two-day trip.Today, my morning began lazily. The weather is gloomy. I feel a bit groggy from staying up late last night and organizing my things. Since I’ll be leaving for Taipei in a few hours, I’ve opted for a casual outfit for breakfast. My lightweight CASIO LF-20W seems perfect to remind me when it’s time to leave. While sipping my coffee, I’m wondering which watches to take for the next two days. The weather suggests I might need a mood booster. Something to cheer me up. Especially if it rains all day, as it often does during this season, August. I think a silver dial could just do it. I’ll pick my Turnograph. It has never let me down on moody days, giving me always a spark of joy. I’ll also need something waterproof and versatile, just in case I stumble upon a hot spring with some friends. Yet, even while in Taipei, I want to keep track of Italian time, as my friend Giuseppe is about to become a father in a few days. I want to call at the right time. I will go for the Pasha GMT in stainless steel with a crocodile strap. It’s comfortable, even in the heat, and has an understated look – best for exploring unfamiliar areas while setting up my temporary workspace. Now, what about my daily commuting watch? I glance at my wrist and think that the CASIO will never let me down. In a way, it combines the other twos – dual time, waterproof, and casual. It might be a bit warmer to wear, but it will do just fine.
I retrieve the watches and place them carefully in my watch roll, ensuring they won’t slip out during my trip. To add an extra layer of security, I flip down in the safest mode. With “two in the can,” it’s time to go, I tell myself. “Wait a second”. The tools are there -always, you don’t even feel the presence- but should I take a strap? I opt for the easy-release strap with a vintage vibe in silicone. It’s perforated, which should be more comfortable in Taipei’s rainy season. Hopefully September is just around the corner. The strap fits the Turnograph well. And I wouldn’t change the strap on the Pasha, anyway. So, I open the watch roll’s back, insert the strap, and I’m ready to go. I quietly remind myself that I’m “good to go.” After cleaning up the table, I head out. “Beep Beep”…”well just in time”, dear CASIO. Closing the door, my trip awaits – bus, train, two metro lines – TPAC, I’m coming. I’m thrilled to see the new Performing Arts Center in Taipei.
